Privacy Policy — TP-7 Manager
Last updated: March 24, 2026
Overview
TP-7 Manager is a macOS desktop application for managing recordings from the Teenage Engineering TP-7 field recorder. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the app accesses and how it is handled.
Data We Do Not Collect
TP-7 Manager does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us. There are:
- No user accounts
- No analytics or telemetry
- No crash reporting sent to us
- No advertising
- No tracking of any kind
We have no servers. We do not know who you are or how you use the app.
Data That Stays on Your Device
The following data is created and stored locally on your Mac:
- Audio recordings copied from your TP-7 device
- Transcripts generated from your recordings
- Categories, tags, and metadata you assign to recordings
- App settings stored in macOS UserDefaults
- API keys stored in macOS Keychain (encrypted by the operating system)
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use one of the optional cloud features described below.
Optional Cloud Features
TP-7 Manager offers optional integrations that send data to third-party services. These are disabled by default and require you to provide your own API keys:
OpenAI Whisper API (optional)
- What is sent: Audio recordings for transcription
- When: Only when you select "OpenAI Whisper API" as your transcription engine and initiate transcription
- Your control: You can use local transcription (WhisperKit) instead, which processes everything on-device with no network access
OpenAI / Anthropic AI Features (optional)
- What is sent: Transcript text (truncated to 2000 characters) for categorization, naming, and summarization
- When: Only when you enable auto-categorization, auto-naming, or auto-summarization in Settings
- Your control: You can disable all AI features. The app functions fully without them.
Notion Export (optional)
- What is sent: Transcript text, recording title, date, and category to your Notion workspace
- When: Only when you configure Notion export and initiate or enable auto-export
- Your control: Notion export is entirely optional. You provide your own Notion API token.
Third-Party Services
All third-party API communication uses your own API keys. We do not proxy, intercept, or have access to your API keys or the data you send to these services. Your API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain, which is encrypted and protected by your Mac's security.
Local File Access
TP-7 Manager accesses files on your Mac in these locations:
- TP-7 device via FieldKit (to read/write recordings)
- Your chosen library folder (to store synced recordings and transcripts)
- Export destinations you configure (Markdown folder, if enabled)
The app uses macOS App Sandbox and only accesses folders you explicitly grant permission to.
Children's Privacy
TP-7 Manager does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, we will post the new version at this URL with an updated date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
